1/24/2010 Bend Clutch and Brake Pedal, Set Ride Height

I spent about 2 hours today working on getting the pedals bent.  It is hard to get a good feel if they are bent enough without the pedal resistance.  I can always request the bender again if it proves that I need it.  I have order the aftermarket gas pedal and pedal covers.  I took the car of the jack stands and worked on the ride height.  I got to 4 1/2" on the front but have maxed out the shocks on the rear and still I am about 1/4-3/8" high.  I think it will settle some with more weight on the car.

1/23/2010 Check Rear Alignment, Fuel lines, Pedal Box

I spent about 3 hours today adjusting the rear end alignment.  The rear end was off about 3/8" and I adjusted the panhard bar to bring it equal.  I will recheck all measurements when I get the ride height adjusted and the front end preliminary alignment done.  I also started working on the fuel lines.  I do not like the way it is turning out and may have to get some additional tubing to complete the runs.  I mounted the pedal box having to cut a portion of the pedal box off to eliminate the rubbing on the steering shaft.  I received the Midwest pedal bender during the week and want to send it on its way.

1/19/2010 Pickup Wheels and Tires, Mount on Car

I had dropped off the wheels at Discount Tire over the weekend.  They ordered the BF Goodrich Super Sport AS tires.  I am putting 245/45ZR17 on the front and 275/40ZR17 on the rear.  I wanted to have good touring tires with decent tread life.  They look good!

1/17/2010 Finish Brake Lines, Fit Pedal Box, Start Fuel Line Bending, Passenger Footbox

I spent today wrapping up the brake line brackets.  I also, starting bending and pre-fitting the fuel lines.  I fitted the pedal box but the instructions in the manual do not seem correct.  The pedal box is rubbing the steering shaft and probably needs to be cut to fit.  I will post a question on the FFR forum for more information.  I assembled the passenger footbox preparing to finish installation.  I am getting real close to being able to put in several of the aluminum panels.

1/16/2010 Install Fuel Tank, Breeze Battery Box, and Rear Brake Lines

After a lengthy delay in working on the car, I was able to make some time to spend in the shop working on it. I had painted the fuel tank shield during the week as well as the fuel tank straps. I managed to install the tank. I also spent about an hour installing the Breeze Battery Box kit. I wanted the to move the battery to the engine compartment and the Breeze kit works great. I finished running the rear brake lines. My Harbor Freight flaring tool died and I purchased another from O'Reillys Auto Parts

1/2/09 Installed Steering Column and Mounted Brake Cable Holders.

I mounted the steering column today.  I spent a few minutes changing out all the brass washers on the banjo bolts for the brakes.  I then mounted all the brake line holders.  This will lead to installing all the brake lines.

1/1/09 Re-assemble Donor Rack, Install in Car, Install Brake Cable

I re-assembled the steering rack today.  I then proceeded to mount on the chassis.  I had to use the instructions from teh MK3 Build site to shorten the inner tie rods to fit.  The MK3 site is proving very helpful.  I pretty much had to reassemble the front suspension to get everything to tie together.  All the nuts were torqued to spec except the tie rods which I left for alignment.  I attached the braided brake cables to the calipers.  I got the brake cables from Diskbrakesrus.com.

12/31/09 Disassemble Donor Steering Rack

I started in on disassembling the donor steering rack today.    I also received the steering rack kit from Factory Five yesterday so I am ready to start the reassembly.  I need to go to the parts store to get some Loc-Tite.  I guess I will finish tomorrow.

12/29/09 Mount F Panels, Assemble Front End, and Install Front Calipers

I mounted the front F panels and finished assembling the front suspension.  I left all the nuts loose for now pending the resolution on the steering rack.

12/28/09 Assembled Rear Calipers and Mounted to Rear Axle

Today a spent about an 1 hour assembling the rear calipers and attaching them to the rear axle.

12/27/09 Rebuild Calipers and Seal Rear End

I started on the rebuild of the rear calipers and touch of the paint.  I also sealed the rear end.
